Our Tools

01.

— Abstracter

The Abstracter is a chord sequencer which works inside of Ableton Live. It is flexible and useful in both composition and dynamic sequencing. Octave/semitone control allows users to dynamically change the pitch position of four notes. Chords within the grid are mappable via the ‘Learn’ mode and Transpose mode will wrap the pitch classes around a middle C. Features will be updated in the future. Please get in contact if you feel you can improve upon the functionality.

02.

— Tremolo

Tremolo is a trumpet emulator for use within Max/MSP that allows the user to view scales in a visual representation of trumpet architecture. It allows MIDI mapping so that different buttons and sliders can be assigned to control both overtone selection and valve fingering. This links up to the Abstracter to enable the user to view chord sequences on the layout as well. Ableton Push integration is also included. This is a beta version of the software. Please get in contact if you feel you are able to improve upon the functionality.

03.

— Remappable Grid

This allows different notes to be assigned to different Refract chords. For example it allows a user to play in the key of C major. We find that this allows sweeping melodies to be played within our collaborative musical environments.

04.

— Harmony Wheel

Our harmony wheel is a tool for selecting chords. It is useful for selecting chords sequentially or for selecting them with colour in mind.

05.

— Hexagon Mat

Our hexagon mat allows users to interact by stepping on buttons to trigger chord changes. It is inspired by a dance mat and allows chord changes to happen with rhythmic stepping.

06.

— Wireless Interface

Contact free hand operation is possible to interact with our on-screen hexagonal interfaces, providing a geometric assortment of notes which respond to our other instruments.
